GLEN LAKE CAMP AND RETREAT CENTER
strives to create a Christian
environment where authentic relationships are formed. Our Mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Our Recreation team offers lots of activities for groups to participate in. We offer the use of our zip line, waterpark, lake, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, climbing wall, archery and challenge course and more when you schedule them with us. To schedule our Recreation Activities and for Recreation Pricing, please contact Amanda Garza, email@example.com
The low ropes course consists of a variety of ground level initiatives designed to bring a team together. All of the initiatives are concrete tasks that involve problem solving through teamwork. The tasks themselves, while fun and often challenging, aren’t as important as the process and outcome of what the group itself does. The interaction of the group, the process they use to solve the problem, and the final outcome, are all examined by the group after each initiative. What we believe at Glen Lake Challenge Course is that learning through experience is great, but unless you stop to reflect on that experience, you don’t gain anything from it. We reflect on what we do, so we can then take it and apply it to real life!
On the opposite side of the lake from the canoes, we have a fish hut set up where guests are welcome to drop a line to see what they can catch. Our lake is stocked with bass, perch, and catfish. We do operate by a catch and release policy. We provide the fishing poles, or you may bring your own if you like. We ask that you let us know ahead of time that you would like to use the fish hut, so we can have everything ready for you including bait. Using the fish hut and our equipment is included in the cost of your retreat.
Archery is a classic camp activity and is taught by one of our Level 1 USA Archery trained staff. Campers will learn safety and terminology of this sport and then will be able to put their skills to the test on the range. Whether you’re a novice, just learning a new skill, or an expert perfecting your marksmanship, this activity is fun for all.
We always have a Level 1 USA Archery Instructor on site for archery.
A day at the Glen Lake Challenge Course can consist of spending half a day or a full day with us on the course. The group has the opportunity to do low ropes, climbing wall, and zip line. Each activity can be scheduled individually or as a combination. Please specify when the group calls to make reservations.
The Challenge Course program is a holistic approach to realizing the potential within us, and to explore how to live more effectively in relation to others. In an effort to experientially move toward a fuller understanding of the idea of leadership, trust, responsibility, communication, roles, and teamwork, each individual will be encouraged to participate fully.
We always have a Level 1 ACCT Certified Staff Member on site for the course.
Our Goals for our challenge course include;
For participants to gain problem solving skills and understand conflict management
Allow participants to challenge their personal commitment and willingness to risk within the group
Expand the groups understanding and experience of what it means to work together as a group
Allow for leadership development and awareness of potential in ones self and others
For participants to develop relationships within the group appropriate to the groups purpose
Expand the groups decision making process and communication skills
To give opportunities to groups of all ages to practice the skills above by confronting real challenge
Allow the group to reflect upon their experience and how it applies to the group or them as an individual
Climb to new heights and conquer your fears! Our 30-foot indoor climbing wall is for novice and expert climbers. Certified instructors will be there to show you the ropes and make sure you stay safe!
We always have Level 1 ACCT Certified Instructors on site for the wall.
A favorite activity among campers to pass the time. We have 4 official size GAGA Ball Pits and we provide you with the ball and the objective. Every player steps into the GAGA Pit and once the games begins, it is played until only one remains. The game is a mix between dodge ball and four-square. Once you play it, you will love it!
HIKE TO THE CROSS
Glen Lake camp sits right on the Paluxy river! Guests of all ages can walk down to the river and explore the nature and wildlife it has to offer. You can walk across the Paluxy river and follow a marked trail up to the cross on the hill at the camp. You can feel the coolness of water before you make it to the top and you will enjoy an amazing view of the camp and the city of Glen Rose! It’s a great place for a group photo!
Our staff are available to lead you to the trail.
Shoot down our giant Water Slide, bounce each other on the Rock It, relax on the Splash Pad, or make big waves jumping off our dock in the center of the lake. Our lake toys are available to your group to schedule and we run them seasonally. Lifejackets are required and provided.
We always have lifeguards on duty when the lake is scheduled.
Take a relaxing ride out on the lake on one of our paddleboards, kayaks, or canoes. It will test your balance and strength as you try and stay dry! Our Paddle Sports are available during the warm months of the year for our guests. However, they do have to be reserved ahead of time because a lifeguard is required to be present for any group that would like to use them. Life jackets are required for anyone that goes out on the lake.
We always have lifeguards on duty when you are paddling.
SPORTS & SPACES
We have plenty of open space for groups to play any sport they would like! This space also includes a softball field and our sand volleyball court. We have equipment for almost any game you could imagine. A few of our favorites are: ultimate frisbee, soccer, kick ball, volleyball, softball, football, wiffle ball, horseshoes. And of course inside our gym we offer basketball, ping pong, hula hoop, jump rope, foosball, and 9-square.
Loads of fun for young and old alike, the waterpark features a 24′ high slide with unexpected twists and turns, or hop on an inner tube and float around the lazy river. The tumblebuckets and waterfall are other favorites. If staying dry is your priority, you can still be a part of the fun underneath one of our big umbrellas. The water park is available for guest or non-profit group use only through a planned retreat, not open to the public.
We always have lifeguards on duty when our Water Park is open.
The zip line starts with the participant on the ground, where they then climb the stairs 35-40 feet in the air to the zip line platform. That is where they are hooked into the zip line and sent off to enjoy the ride! The challenges associated with the zip line are more individual ones, but there is still a place for encouragement, support from the group, and teamwork. Some of the challenges the individual will face, such as building confidence, risk taking, and over coming fears, can be addressed in a safe team environment that allows for growth and development within the group.
We always have Level 1 ACCT Certified Staff at our zip line.
Glen Lake Camp is delighted your group has chosen us for your retreat. We are excited about the opportunity to offer accommodations and the retreat experience. If you have questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to serving you.
